Resum: L’objectiu de l’article és resseguir les representacions pictòriques de Lucrècia Borja i les seues connotacions. Per això, repassarem les que suposadament li van fer en vida per a comparar-les a continuació amb les recreacions del XIX i saltar fins a l’actualitat. El repàs ens durà per obres de Pinturicchio, el Veneto, Dossi, Rossetti, Alfred Elmore, Cadogan Cowper, de Felipe i Baldessari. Un recorregut dels frescos vaticans a les aquarel·les prerafaelites, de l’Exposició Universal de París de 1878 a un museu australià que assegura posseir l’únic retrat autèntic de Lucrècia Borja. Òbviament, el context històric determina el tipus d’obra i el tractament del personatge. No són el mateix les obres a càrrec del pintors de la cort papal o ducal en vida de Lucrècia Borja que les representacions de l’Anglaterra victoriana. Canvien els codis, però també els públics i la finalitat. Volem mostrar com apareixen, desapareixen o perviuen determinats atributs en funció de l’equilibri entre història i ficció.
Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyse the pictorial representations of Lucrezia Borgia and their connotations. Therefore, we will review the portraits that had allegedly been painted when she was alive, and then we will compare them with the 19th century and present-day recreations. In the meantime, we will see several works by Pinturicchio, il Veneto, Dossi, Rossetti, Alfred Elmore, Cadogan Cowper, Felipe and Baldessari, making a tour from the Vatican frescoes to the Pre-Raphaelite watercolours, from the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1878 to an Australian museum that claims to own the only true Lucrezia Borgia’s portrait. Obviously, the historical context determines the type of work and the approach to the character. There are differences between the portraits of Lucrezia by painters of the papal or ducal court, and the depictions made by Victorian artists. Codes change over time, public and purpose too. We want to show how certain features appear, disappear or survive according to the balance between history and fiction.
